SynopsisRachel takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. “Jess and Jason,” she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost. And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good? |
Review
WLet me start off by saying: TRUST NO ONE.
All of the characters in this thriller are absolutely horrible. In my opinion, all the lies, deceit, and manipulation make this story so much more realistic. The character development is absolutely excellent. This story is told in different POVs, which I really enjoyed. I liked reading the characters' different experiences and their take on the same situations even though all of them were completely unreliable. Hawkins attention to detail is evident in this specifically plotted out story. There were so many possibilities and I did not see the twist at the end coming, at all (maybe that's just me though).
This book challenges the reader to really think about how much they think they know about people. You may think you know someone, but people only show you what they want you to see. Don't be quick to judge based off of the limited knowledge you have of a person. How much can you ever truly know about a person? Not everyone's lives are what they seem.
Hawkins' debut novel is eerie, engrossing, and addictive.
